Commas: Five differences in English
No commas between independent clause and dependent, restrictive clause
- Ich freue mich, wenn du kommst. Incorrect: I am glad, when you come. Correct: I am glad when you come.
No commas before modified infinitive phrases
- Sie bat mich, ihr das Gepäck am nächsten Tag ins Hotel zu bringen. She asked me to bring her luggage to the Hotel the next day.
Commas after nonrestrictive transitional words
- For example, use a comma in this sentence.
- The code, however, is broken.
Decimal places use periods
Large numbers use commas
- 20 000 or 20.000 = 20,000
